Salary Range: $90,000-$130,000 USD per year

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division, working as a team member on site as Fluid Dynamicist supporting Acoustics Technology Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, West Bethesda.  Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Research and study high Reynolds number, impressible flow field that leads to generation of underwater sound
  • Research CFD modeling on large and detached eddy simulations of external flow turbulent boundary layers and internal flows with complex geometries
  • Investigate and develop unsteady fluid structure interaction and multi-phase flow simulation
  • Collaborate with physical experiments performed at wind/water tunnels and scaled ship prototypes to validate numerical hydroacoustics models
  • Produce technical documents and reports.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics
  • PhD degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of research experience desired
  • Job experience in the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding of high Reynolds number turbulent flows and fluid structure interaction
  • Knowledge of CFD modeling and simulation tools and process
  • Knowledge of acoustics measurement system
  • Knowledge of advanced signal processing
  • Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Able to travel to naval research and development facilities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
